My mother was a RN for over 50 years. How she got private duty work was to align herself with the upscale nursing homes in the area. These families never believe there is enough staff to care for their love ones. These are the people that would pay top dollar to have a private duty nurse stay in the room, round the clock, with their love ones.
Make some calls in person to just the best nursing homes in your area and introduce yourself. With their recommendations you should get a lot of work.
Also look into private duty in your local hospitals, but with the hospitals you will have to take the high and lower paying jobs to stay on their list.
Hope this helps.
