Sandy,

Thanks for mentioning this idea.

I've been s truggling with the term "Customer Service" because, to me it means AFTER SALE service. Either calling to make sure everything is ok, or being like a Help Desk. But the website talks about Sales. So it lost me a bit.

One story was of a couple who started a home-based answering service. Over time it grew. They moved out of their home and into a larger building. And the answering service grew into a full serviced office - where people could lease a single office and everything is provided.

They then openned another two serviced offices. And were making about $960,000 a year. They sold the three serviced offices for $8 million!

There was the little old lady who offered answering service. The businesses who used her service would transfer their phone to her number. Without know whose business was being cslled she answered the phone something like, "You've reached the office, how may I help you?" She would instantly know which business was being called by the caller's answer. The businesses - usually tradesmen - paid her something like $5 - $10 a week, or $0.50 a call, or whatever it was, so they didn't have to rely on callers leaving a message on a voice mail. And she just held their messages until they called her to get them.

Anoher guy pays a lady $100 a week to field and screen his calls. He gives her forms to fill out as each caller calls. She asks the questions and writes the answers on the form. He gets them from her once a day - he may even have her fax them to him, I don't recall how he gets them. This frees his time to do "deals" - he is a deeal maker, like Trump.

I think something like these that can be run from home with your phone, are pretty good.

You'd only need 25 businesses paying $20 a week to make $2,000 a month.
