Key For Convenience

Michael,
Thanks for looking at alternate money generators.
Key for convenience is not dropping something off somewhere. It is YOU picking it up and then dropping it off again.
The dropping off thing works for "needed" items. Like shoes that NEED fixing, or clothes that NEED mending. But transfering VHS to DVD is not NEEDED. So what happens is, the person forgets to bring it with them and drop it off.
Get around this by collecting the tapes from the customer. You can still let Blockbuster (or whatever video store you choose) get the customer's details for you. They would just be a referral service. Collecting names and numbers and passing them on for you to do the final arranging. Or maybe they will put a flyer about your service in with the DVD they hire.
As for what to charge... find out what other's charge. You might jut find you can get $25 per DVD. Remember, you are NOT selling pre-recorded DVD of the same thing. You are providing a specialized service that will be a once off. But if you feel more comfortable with $20 per DVD, then go with that. Just start is the main thing. Everything else becomes a needless detail to ponder over and which will trip you up and prevent you going ahead.
Run a few ads...
VHS TO DVD TRANSFER. Transfer all your old VHS tapes to DVD. Fast turnaround. DVDs have menus. Free pick up and delivery. Call 555-5555
Run it for a month and see what happens. Then go from there.
